ABOUT

Welcome to Different Track! We are glad you found us. We plan to release a wide variety of music and related items–CDs, downloads, video, printed material, and miscellaneous bits of culture–over the next few years, beginning in April, 2018.

Our catalog will include material created in recording studios, the Soup & Sound House Concert Series, live performances, basements and living rooms, field recordings, recordings from communities of “non-professional” musicians, music from different genres, and more. Initially there is a preponderance of work by Andrew Drury, but that will be less the case as more music originates from the Soup & Sound house concert series and other sources.

Our perspective: aesthetics and economics largely exist in independent realms, and though they are interdependent in important ways, the relationship is an uneasy one. Some music fits easily within perceived commercial parameters, and some doesn’t.

Different Track takes an all-encompassing approach. If we think it’s worthwhile aesthetically, and fits our mission and capabilities, we will endeavor to make it accessible to curious listeners worldwide.

The audio quality will inevitably vary–and that’s the point. The music industry has changed. Production models created for times past don’t necessarily apply now. We’re trying (forgive the pun) a different track. A lot of very worthwhile music is created in a lot of different circumstances. We embrace it all and provide access to a selection of music, artists, and products that we think are great and worth knowing about.
